Alterations and Additions to an Edwardian Era home - 2013

K+AR assisted the client in acheiving a building permit in 3.5 months. We streamlined the design and process with the client and builder to allow the simple renovation works to proceed to the existing building, whilst K+AR finalised the building permit documentation. The project was completed on time, 11 months after being commissioned.

The design maximised the client's budget by limiting disruption to the existing house. The existing 4 principal rooms of the original edwardian building were utilised for bedrooms and a study. The 1980s era extension was demolished. All the wet areas were combined into 2 'bathing blocks' clad in glazed tiles. A glazed roof and small courtyard to the south provide natural light, relief and drama to an otherwise utilitarian hallway.

The rear living areas feature two pavilions, terracing with the land and garden. The kitchen dining pavilion is light, airy and open, with the roof 'reaching' for the northern aspect.
The lower, lounge pavilion is cosy and protected, featuring a day bed with a garden aspect.
This design brings together a variety of experiences and drama with a careful palate of honest and robust materials - perfect for the client's family needs.
