Our clients, the owners and winemakers behind the award-winning Ocean Eight Winery on the Mornington Peninsula, acquired a small house perched atop Arthurs Seat. While the views were breathtaking, the house itself was not. Due to strict planning regulations and a high Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) on the site, any attempt to extend the house would have required substantial upgrades to the building fabric, making renovation unfeasible.

We were brought on board to work closely with the clients to refine their vision, taking into account both their immediate needs and long-term goals, with consideration for future expansion as their family and financial circumstances evolve.

Key design priorities included bushfire resistance, incorporating durable and resilient materials and finishes both inside and out; energy efficiency through passive solar design; seamless indoor/outdoor entertaining spaces to maximize the panoramic views; and, as wine connoisseurs, the inclusion of a wine cellar, tucked into the temperature-stable earth at the lower level.

"Kate and Andrew have great vision and creativity. They are a great team and have made our dreams a reality with their design of our family home".

"The floorplan uniquely spills out around this central outdoor space, as the original part of the house was converted into a wing of bedrooms for their three kids".
